Officially the largest event in the Cote d’Azur and one of the largest Carnivals in the world. As such this event should be a item on your bucket list. The Carnival breathes life into the sleepy winter city of Nice and you can feel the excitement in the air during the two week celebration every February.
There are typically three parades to choose from – you most definitely should choose all three if you have the time. However, if you must choose one I personally recommend the flower parade. Originating in 1876 along Nice’s Promenade Des Anglais the shy trading of flowers has transformed into a serious event; with 16 floral covered floats manned by costumed individuals throwing hundreds of flowers into the waiting arms of an enthusiastic crowd.
Regardless of which parade you choose make sure to purchase your tickets in advance online and arrive early! Security lines can take upwards of 45 minutes and you don’t want to miss any part of the parade. Remember to bring some sunscreen and do not attempt to bring beverages or beverage containers into the secured parade area – they will be confiscated. Most important of all though – be prepared to have a memorable experience and leave with a smile on your face.
